My work emphasizes gesture and how it reveals what words may not. Because my family spoke only Latvian, we were isolated from the surrounding community. I had to intuit what was going on around me by observing nuance of expression, gestures and body language.

Narrative has been implied in the work through the juxtaposition of various images. Usually, I draw on moments from my own life as subject matter. Now that I am entering middle age, the focus of the work has been more on the evocation of a psychological state. Various mid-life issues appear, such as apprehension about ageing, losing one's desirability and deception and its accompanying suspicions.
